In the Senegalese village of Yonti, Imam Tierno keeps his community together by tending to their spiritual unity. But the state of peace in the village threatens to collapse when his daughter gets engaged to the son of his brother Ousmane. Tierno is wary of Ousmane due to his ties to an extremist sheikh and his thirst for power. The engagement sparks a conflict between the brothers and the fundamentalist movement. The sheikh’s influence spreads, meaning the villagers are forced to live in fear of violence and control.
