LA PIROGUE (DIE PIROGE)

FILMFORUM IM MUSEUM LUDWIG   Ticketshop

A fishing village near Dakar. Many pirogues depart from there to reach the Spanish territory of the Canary Islands – often a
deadly crossing. Baye Laye is captain of a fishing pirogue. He knows the sea. He doesn’t want to leave his country, but has no choice. He has to take 30 men to Spain (and one woman as a stowaway). His passengers don’t all speak the same language. Some have never seen the sea and nobody knows what lies ahead of them...
After the world premiere at Cannes and its success at the Carthage festival, the film won several prices at the pan-African film festival FESPACO in Ouagadougou in spring 2013, including the third price, the Étalon de Yennenga in bronze.
