Nizar Saleh and Paul Shemisi are once again offering workshops at schools this year.
In the practical workshops for younger school classes, the main focus is on learning how we sort through information and images in today's world of sensory overload and discover new worlds that are not so far away.
In the workshops, which are aimed more at older pupils, topics such as everyday racism, colonialism and ecology are dealt with using excerpts from the two filmmakers' films. They learn first-hand, for example, how refugees perceive life in Europe or what challenges people in another part of the world have to face and what this has to do with us.

Mozalisi Nizar Saleh ist ein kongolesischer Filmemacher, bildender Künstler und Produzent, der in Antwerpen, Belgien, lebt. In seinen Arbeiten verbindet er Dokumentarfilm, postkoloniale Erinnerungsarbeit und experimentelle Bildgestaltung. In seinen Filmen beschäftigt er sich mit verschwiegenen Erzählungen, postkolonialen Spuren und zeitgenössischen Verbindungen zwischen Afrika und Europa. Der aus Kinshasa stammende Künstler entwickelt eine filmische Praxis zwischen intimer Beobachtung, Archivarbeit und visueller Recherche. Er ist Gründungsmitglied des belgisch-kongolesischen Collectif FAIRE-PART. Zu seinen jüngsten Projekten zählen „Kingongolo Kiniata“ und „Bakufi te“ (The Unburyables).
Paul Shemisi is a photographer, documentary filmmaker and hip-hop poet. His work, whether as a poet or as a cameraman, shows “his” Kinshasa: an artistically flourishing cosmopolitan city with an incomparable wealth of invention – the daily weapon of resistance and the engine for the resilience of the population. He will offer hip-hop workshops in French at schools in Cologne and other creative workshops together with Nizar Saleh.
Since 2016, Paul and Nizar have formed the COLLECTIF FAIRE-PART collective together with other Belgian filmmakers. Their common theme is primarily the reappraisal of colonialism. Paul is co-founder of the production company “Kimpavita Film”.
