1997, three years after the genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda. Eva dreams of studying medicine. In a traditional marriage ritual called Guterura, the young woman is being abducted by a group of men. The family encourages Eva's forced marriage to Silas. Forced to share her new life with a stranger, Eva feels abandoned. Silas' cousin lives in the same house as them. A bond develops between the two women as they exchange views on their families' pasts. In her first feature film THE BRIDE, director Myriam U. Birara addresses the trauma of society through the friendship between two women.
