Gloria, a single mother, is about to marry off her daughter Nour. In the suburbs of Paris, the wedding ceremony takes shape, bringing family and friends together for this important event. Thousands of kilometers away, in a village in Guinea-Bissau, Gloria and her family take part in another ceremony: one that elevates her late father to the status of an ancestor. In this feature film, Alain Gomis transcends geographical borders, as well as those between documentary and fiction, and between ancestors and descendants. DAO weaves together timelines and narratives, creating a dialogue between present and past to explore transmission, memory, and roots.

Poundo Gomis is a French-Senegalese multidisciplinary artist working across film, music, dance, and performance. After an international career as a dancer with productions including Fela! and collaborations with artists such as Alicia Keys, Cirque du Soleil, and Aya Nakamura, she expanded her practice into acting and music. She appears in Alain Gomis' feature DAO, which premiered in competition at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival. Performing in Mandjak, Wolof, French, and English, her work explores identity, memory, and African diasporic heritage through an interdisciplinary artistic language.
