OUR LAND, OUR FREEDOM

Filmforum Ludwig   Ticketshop

From 1952 to the early 1960s, the Mau Mau resistance movement fought against British colonial rule. Wanjugu Kimathi, daughter of Mau Mau leader Dedan Kimathi, is searching for the remains of her father, who was executed by colonial forces in 1957. Directors Zippy Kimundu and Meena Nanji follow Wanjugu in her father's footsteps. Wanjugu meets Mau Mau veterans and other families who bear witness to the buried atrocities of colonisation and the injustices that continue to this day. As she meets more and more people, her personal quest is an extension of her father's struggle, OUR LAND, OUR FREEDOM: to reclaim the land.
