TONGO SAA (RISING UP AT NIGHT)
Filmforum Ludwig Ticketshop
Darkness is falling over Kinshasa and not all of its 17 million inhabitants have access to electricity following flooding. TONGO SAA paints a nuanced picture of the capital as it prepares to build Africa's largest power station. On Christmas Eve, the population is organizing itself between resourcefulness and faith. Some collect money for electricity cables or provide temporary lighting, while others preach and endeavour to inspire hope. In this documentary, director Nelson Makengo's camera portrays the daily perseverance of a population in the nights of Kin la belle (Kinshasa the beauty).
