DE CIERTA MANERA

Yolanda, a young teacher, works in Havana's new Miraflores district, built in 1962 to rehouse the inhabitants of a low income area. Every day she has to deal with the prejudices of a population once accustomed to a life on the fringes of society. She falls in love with Mario, a young worker seeking a new identity within the revolutionary brigades. This opposing romance allows Sara Gómez to reveal the contradictions and failings of post-revolutionary Cuba. In DE CIERTA MANERA she admirably blends documentary and fiction, denouncing the oppression of women, the cult of virility and the class violence of Cuban society.
