L'ARGENT, LA LIBERTÉ, UNE HISTOIRE DE FRANC CFA

While 1960 marked the end of colonial empires on the continent, the CFA franc, the currency introduced by the French colonial system, remains in circulation in a dozen African countries and is linked to the French Treasury to this day. This French colonial legacy shapes the daily lives of millions of people. L'ARGENT, LA LIBERTÉ, UNE HISTOIRE DU FRANC CFA starts with a coin, a banknote, an everyday object, as a starting point for understanding its history and its consequences today. Katy Léna Ndiaye questions a collective history and inequality on the African continent, and urges a rethink of the past in order to rebuild the future.
