In the 1950s, around 300,000 Jews lived in Morocco. In 1967, the Six Day War provoked a large-scale exodus. Today, there are only a few hundred Jews left in Morocco, though their saints and places of worship still remain. ZIYARA means visit and, by extension, visiting the saints, a popular practise common to Jews and Muslims who jointly worship certain saints. In this documentary, director Simone Bitton meets the Muslim guardians of Jewish memory, who look after the shrines, synagogues and cemeteries of another religion.
