FÜHRUNG im Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum: DIE BAUSTELLE - Aus Konservierung wird Konversation

In this guided tour, the permanent exhibition will be read against the grain in a racism-critical way. Existing text passages and forms of representation of objects/subjects will be criticized. What images of 'non-European cultures' are produced and reproduced and what alternatives would be possible? Which voices have been left out of this exhibition and why? This approach builds on the methodology of the previous special exhibition “RESIST! The Art of Resistance”, in which a polyphony was fundamental to illuminating the past and present of anti-colonial and anti-racist struggles. The tour provides an insight into these often unheard stories and uses concrete examples of the handling of objects/subjects to shed light on the close relationship between past racist colonial violence and today's struggles for anti-racism, restitution and reparation.
