Shortly after the dust has settled on the Arab Spring, the Libyan women’s football team are dreaming of their first game for the national team. But first the footballers have to overcome the huge social resistance that self-confident women in Libya are generally confronted with. Media reports only serve to mobilise the conservative opposition that hopes to quash the women’s footballing dream. Naziha Arebi and her camera accompany three women for several years as they fight for their freedoms with enduring strength and resolve. As their country descends into civil war, their lives change on a daily basis. Uncertainty becomes the norm – both in society and in their private lives. But the film’s protagonists continue to chase their dream, suffering setbacks and taking opportunities along the way and, in doing so, becoming role models for a new generation of women in Libya.
